CATEGORY DEFINITIONS

 

Any and all qualified classes can be divided by age and experience of exhibitor and pony as well as size of pony.  For example, "13 & Under Rider", "Green Horse", "12hh & Under", "Novice Handler", etc.
 
 
Equitation
Any class where the exhibitor is mainly judged.
Equitation- Rider's posture and control over pony.  Showmanship- Handler's control over pony "in-hand".  Reinsmanship- Driver's posture and control over pony. Leadline also falls in this category.
 
Western
Any class where the pony is judged in a stock-type saddle (including side-saddle) .  The pony is judged on manners and way of going at the walk and/or jog and/or lope.  This division excludes classes that involve trail, working livestock, gymkhana events, and classes that judge the exhibitor.

Working Rancher (no livestock)
 
English
Any class where the pony is judged in an English saddle (including side-saddle, saddle-seat and dressage).  The pony is judged on manners and way of going at the walk and/or trot and/or canter.  This division excludes trail, dressage events, racing, over fences and classes that judge the exhibitor.

Cow Pony
Any class where the pony is judged on it's ability to work livestock. (Cattle, sheep, goats.)

Sport Pony
Any class where the pony is judged during events related to 3-Day Eventing: Dressage, Stadium Jumping and Cross-Country Jumping.

Trail
Any event where the pony is judged on its manners and its ability to negotiate obstacles.

Any timed gaming event where the pony is judged.  The event MUST be timed and the placing made according the the fasted equine.

Events that do NOT count would be those considered "Fun Classes" (i.e Egg and Spoon, Musical Chairs, Simon Says, Toilet Paper Race, etc.)
 
Driving
Any event where the pony is judged on it's ability to pull a two or four-wheeled carriage.  The pony is judged on manners and its way of traveling at the walk and/or three variances of the trot (collected, working and extended).  This division is for single pony hitches only, no teams.
